Important information and facts about Seattle

Seattle: The Diverse Metropolis on the Pacific Ocean

With its large waterfront, the Space Needle and the world-famous Aquarium, the Emerald City of Seattle has very interesting sights to offer for a holiday with a RV. Seattle is the largest city in the northwest of America and is best known as the founding city of Starbucks and the filming location of Grey's Anatomy. Hardly any other American city is as clean, green and neat as Seattle.
Environmental protection is a top priority in the metropolis, all taxis are hybrid vehicles, and there are newly planted trees and bushes everywhere. It is not for nothing that Seattle has been named the most liveable place in the USA several times.
Visitors can visit many attractions by RV. The Space Needle, the Seattle Aquarium and the Woodland Park Zoo are wonderful destinations for the whole family.
The Pike Place Market, Seattle Central Libary and Boeing Co are also definitely worth a visit.

Places of interest

The Space Needle is definitely the most popular destination in Seattle. It can be seen on the cover of almost every travel guide or brochure about the city and is the city's landmark. The eye-catching tower was built in 1962 for the World's Fair "Century 21 Exposition" and can be visited ever since.
The tower reaches a total height of 184 metres. At the top of the tower, an observation deck has been added, which houses a café, a restaurant and a cocktail lounge. Sky City, the restaurant, rotates on its own axis. This allows visitors to admire Seattle from different perspectives.
The gardens around the tower invite you to take a walk and have been beautifully landscaped. It is also very beautiful around the tower of the Space Needle in Seattle. Gardens have been laid out everywhere where you can take a great walk.

Pike Place Market, Promenade and a Ferris Wheel

In the morning, we recommend a visit to Pike Place Market, Seattle's farmers' market. The old market has been held almost daily since 1907 and is located on Pike Street. Here, farmers and artisans offer local produce. The vegetable stalls are open from 7am to 6pm.
During the week, the market is much quieter than at weekends. On the waterfront, you can enjoy a great view of the harbour and the ships. The free-roaming seals are a special attraction.
Animals can also be admired at the nearby Seattle Aquarium. The ride on the Seattle Great Wheel is an unforgettable experience. The gondolas are equipped with glass floors and offer a magnificent view of the city skyline.

Travel time

The best time to travel by camper is from May to September. In summer, the climate is pleasantly warm and dry. On average, the city attracts 10 hours of sunshine during the warm months.

Temperatures

The highest temperatures are reached in the months of July and August, when the thermometer climbs to 25 to 30 degrees Celsius during the day. Night temperatures are between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius. With temperatures around freezing point, it quickly becomes uncomfortable in the camper van from mid-December onwards.

Rainfall

In summer it rains about six to seven days. The amount of rainfall then increases rapidly in autumn and winter. Therefore, it is good if the van has rainproof equipment. However, snow rarely falls in the city.

RV rental Seattle: Campsites

There are some good campsites in and around the city. Therefore, it is no problem to find a suitable site for the RV in Seattle. Tacoma KOA Journey, K.O.A Camp Ground and Park Lake Day Camp promise wonderful holidays.

RV rental Seattle: Tacoma KOA Journey

This is a good place to spend a few nights near the city. It is conveniently located directly on a major road. Registration is straightforward and works smoothly.

The park's leisure facilities include a pool and a playground. There is also a small shop selling food, clothing and camping accessories. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Wi-Fi works everywhere on the site.

RV rental Seattle: K.O.A Camp Ground

This campground is a good base for trips to Seattle. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Wi-Fi is available.

For children, there are nice playgrounds and a small pool. The site is also very pet-friendly, with extra spaces for dog owners. The numerous palm trees growing on the site are particularly beautiful.

RV rental Seattle: Park Lake Day Camp

Admittedly, the campground is not necessarily centrally located, but the ferry ride to the park is worth it. Park Lake Day Camp is a wonderful campsite with a unique natural atmosphere. The highlight of the park is its direct location on a beautiful coastal beach.

Behind the sandy beaches, the mountains rise into the sky. On clear days you can see Mount Rainier and Mount Baker from the beach. The region is not only ideal for swimming, but also for hiking.

If you're looking for a few days of peace and quiet in a beautiful coastal landscape, you'll be happy here. With a bit of luck, you can park your alcove right by the sea and enjoy wonderful sunsets from your RV in the evening.

Directions Seattle

Getting to Seattle by RV is no problem at all. The city is easily accessible from all directions. We particularly recommend travelling via the Panamericana Highway 1, the legendary dream road that leads from Los Angeles to Seattle. You will need about 12 days to cover the entire distance.

On the journey to Seattle, you will pass magnificent attractions such as the Humboldt Redwood State Park and unique crater lakes. The sand dunes of Oregon are worth a stop.

RV holidays: Important information

Many American roads are free of charge. Tolls are charged for the use of the highway and at some bridges. The tolls for the highway vary quite a bit. One to five cents is charged per mile.
Parking is a problem in Seattle. As in most big cities, parking spaces are scarce and therefore expensive. For this reason, it makes sense to leave your alcove at the campground and use public transportation.
You can also pick up your RV in another city and drop it off in Seattle. The one-way rental covers the return costs. This way of travelling is particularly exciting as you save yourself the boring return trip.
