Leipzig is an ideal destination for anyone travelling by RV. There are beautiful nature parks and numerous campsites around the city. The Leipzig lakes are a very special highlight for all RV travellers.
The city is located in the state of Saxony and has about 600,000 inhabitants. The historic centre is particularly worth seeing. Leipzig has been considered an important trading centre since the 12th century.
In the late Middle Ages, book printing and the book trade were particularly important in Leipzig. Leipzig University is one of the oldest in Germany. Musically, Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy left their mark on the city.
In 1989 Leipzig played an important role in reunification. After reunification, numerous sights and cultural monuments were renovated. A city trip lasting several days is therefore definitely worthwhile.
The city itself is also easy to explore by bike. Bikes can be rented at various places. There are numerous public car parks around the city centre where you can park your RV.
The best time to rent RV in the city is between May and September. From April onwards, temperatures climb on average. While it's still 14 degrees in April, it's already 22 degrees in June. Ideal conditions for a holiday with a Campervan.
The least precipitation in the warm months is in April. Then it rains on seven days on average. In July it rains 9 days a month. So weatherproof equipment is an advantage.
It's a lot of fun to explore the city with RV. Thanks to good parking facilities, all the sights can be reached easily. However, parking outside the city centre is much cheaper. For longer stays, it is therefore worth parking the car outside and taking the bus into the centre.

St Nicholas' Church is the largest and most beautiful church in Leipzig. In 1165, the citizens decided to build this church in honour of Saint Nicholas. It is one of the most important buildings of classicism.
Saint Nicholas of Myra is one of the most important Christian saints and lived in Patara between 270 and 365. Throughout his life, Saint Nicholas was committed to helping the poor and the sick. He saved sailors from drowning and raised several people from death.

The Panometer is a relatively new exhibition building which features an exhibition by Yagedar Asisi. This building was once a gasometer. The name Panometer is a combination of the words Panorama and Gasmeter.

This beautiful lake is definitely worth a trip by Campervan. It is located south of the city and was artificially created from an open-cast mining hole. This hole was flooded and is now a recreation area with lots of greenery.

This lake was created by the mining of brown coal. After the mine was closed, it was flooded. Now you can have a wonderful swim here. Lake Markkleeberg is in the immediate vicinity.
Campervan Destination 10: Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei
This enormous plant is an industrial monument well worth seeing, where small exhibitions can be seen today. It is particularly interesting for art lovers and architects and has been extensively renovated. The entire complex is made of brick.
There are several campsites for RVs in the immediate vicinity of the city. The campsites at Kulwitzer See, Hainer See and the Gröbern lake and forest resort are particularly recommendable. From these campsites, the city can be easily reached in a short time.
RV rental in Leipzig: Lake Kulwitz
The water of Lake Kulwitz is so clear that it is one of the best diving areas in the whole country. The leisure facilities are huge. You can swim, hike and cycle. It is possible to rent a canoe at the boat rental.
The campsite is located directly on the lake. In summer, trees provide shade. The sanitary facilities are in order and equipped with toilets, showers and washbasins. There is even a small sandy beach.
RV rental in Leipzig: Hainer See
This campsite is terraced. The view of the lake is therefore magnificent. The old oaks and larches on the site also have a very idyllic effect. There are about 50 pitches for Campervans and caravans.
A meadow for tents is also available. There are three sanitary facilities on the site. Sandy beach sections can be reached on foot in a few minutes. There is also an extra beach for dogs.
Rent RV in Leipzig: The camper van camp at the Gröbern lake and forest resort
This camp is 45 km from the city, but it's worth the drive. It has 24 pitches that can be booked all year round.
Some of the pitches have a direct lake view. The sanitary facilities are modern and clean. Dogs are expressly welcome. A fitness and sauna area round off the programme.
Breakfast in the on-site restaurant is good and can be booked directly at reception. Unfortunately, bikes are not available for rent on the site.
Conclusion: Leipzig is a worthwhile destination for anyone who likes to travel by RV. The city has many exciting sights waiting to be discovered. The campsites on the surrounding lakes offer plenty of relaxation and bathing fun.
