Important information and facts about Calgary

RV rental in Calgary: in a nutshell

Here's a quick overview of what you need to know when hiring an RV in Calgary.

Age limitations for renting an RV in Calgary - The legal driving age in Canada is 19 years old. For most rental providers the minimum age requirement for renting an RV will be 21 years old, but this may differ from provider to provider. The best thing to do is check with the specific rental company; however usually this must be accompanied by an extra surcharge for young drivers aged 21 - 24 years old.

Driving licence requirements for renting an RV or motorhome in Calgary - In order to rent and drive an RV or motorhome in Canada, you'll have to have held your full driving licence for at least one year prior to your rental start date. You must also present your original licence when picking up the vehicle - photocopies are not accepted. If your licence is not in English, then you must also provide either an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official translation of your licence into English. If you don't have either of these documents, then it is important that you plan ahead and apply for them well in advance of your holiday as they can take weeks to arrive!

Extra costs and fees when renting an RV or motorhome in Calgary - There are often additional charges that come with hiring a vehicle, or certain things which are not covered by the basic rate such as Breakdown cover, as such there may be some compulsory extras that aren't included within the initial quoted rate such as breakdown cover.

Additional driver - Usually there is an extra charge if you want to add additional drivers - sometimes this can be added almost instantly on top of your written confirmation after booking when calling up the company directly A lot of people don't realise that just because they're driving their partner around on holiday doesn't mean that they're covered under their insurance policy! So, make sure that anyone else who will be driving during your trip has been added onto your policy before leaving home - otherwise it could invalidate your insurance if there's an accident!

Location fees - If your collection/dropping off location isn't within normal office opening hours it may incur additional fees. Location fees are normally charged if you want to pick-up/drop-off outside normal office hours on weekdays or weekends - typically if something's after 10pm during weekdays and 5pm over weekends. It's always best to check with each individual rental company how exactly how these work before booking so there are no nasty surprises when paying at drop-off!

One ways / relocations - Fees may apply if returning your vehicle back at a different location than where it was originally collected. These fees would apply if you wanted to return your vehicle back at any other location apart from where it was originally picked-up from; please note that it's not always possible either as vehicles might only be able from one area e.g., Vancouver to Toronto etc... unless there's demand for them elsewhere!

Insurance excess / deposit amount - An excess is what you pay towards any damage caused during the course of hire - similar how car hire works.
