It is especially worthwhile renting a camper van in this month. It rains quite often in the region around Manchester. The average rainfall is 1047 mm. The rainiest month is December with 104 mm of precipitation, while April has 73 mm.
The warmest months are June, July and August. Temperatures average around 16 degrees. The lowest temperatures are around 4 degrees in winter. Manchester's temperature fluctuations are quite small, with an annual average difference of 12 degrees.
When camping in Manchester, it is therefore advisable to pack warm and waterproof clothing all year round. Camping equipment should also be largely rainproof. A heavy downpour can be expected at any time.
Manchester, with its numerous half-timbered houses and many modern high-rise buildings, is a sight in itself. In the metropolis, different cultures meet peacefully. In the city itself there are many different car parks where campers can be parked.
However, this is sometimes not really cheap. An alternative is the well-developed public transport network of buses and trams. Some connections are even completely free. Many places in the city centre can also be easily reached on foot.
1. Explore Chinatown
Manchester is home to many Chinese people and the Chinatown area is one of the largest in the country. The neighbourhood is easily recognisable by the colourful Pailou Arch. It is located around Faulkner Street. Many Chinese restaurants and shops are located here.

2. Manchester intu Trafford Centre
This centre is the largest shopping mall in England and is completely covered. It has been beautifully decorated and is therefore also worth seeing for visitors to the city. Many luxury shops are located in this centre. On Peel Avenue, you can shop for less at H&M, Mango and Gap. This shopping complex is also home to many restaurants, cafés and grocery stores. When it rains, this is a good place to take refuge. There is also a mini golf course, cinemas and bowling alleys as possible indoor activities in case of bad weather. The Sea Life Centre is also recommended.
3. Manchester Heaton Park
Heaton Park is a park of superlatives. At 240 hectares, this gigantic park is one of the largest in the UK. It is ideal for relaxing and spending a quiet afternoon away from the hustle and bustle. Amidst woods and meadows are numerous picturesque buildings and historic sites. You can walk for hours on the kilometre-long network of paths. There are numerous modern playgrounds for children. Cafés invite you to linger. The park is so large that it has its own tramway.
4. Go to a football match in Manchester
Manchester is the city of football. The club is known worldwide and very successful. A game at Old Trafford is a must for all great fans of ball sports. Usually the games take place on Saturday. There is also the possibility to take a stadium tour or visit the museum.
5. The Manchester Museum
Another indoor highlight is the Manchester Museum with over 4 million exhibits. This museum houses ancient dinosaur bones as well as Egyptian mummies. It is difficult to see everything in one day. A nice café invites you to take a rest. Admission to the museum is free. It is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and is located on Oxford Road.

This site may not be the closest campervan site, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful. It's definitely worth the drive to get there by motorhome. The site is elevated on a small lake. The view from the motorhome is breathtakingly beautiful. The sanitary facilities are spotless. This place is absolutely recommendable.
Motorhome hire in Manchester - Piethorne Valley Camping
Piethorne Valley is also outside the city. But the site is very quiet and beautifully situated. Piethorne Valley & Reservoir is a fabulous walking area. Around the site there are numerous restaurants and leisure facilities such as an Escape Room, a theatre and a comedy club. Glamping is also available at certain parts of the site.
Motorhome Hire in Manchester - Hawthorne Caravan & Camp Site
The relaxed atmosphere of this site is a big plus. The pub is very popular and the terrace is a real highlight. Hospitality is a big thing here. The site is reasonably priced, but the sanitary facilities are a bit basic, but okay. Bike hire is available nearby.
Motorhome Hire in Manchester - Burrs Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Site
The rustic setting of this site has an almost mystical and enchanting feel. The nearby river and barrage is something very special. Most of the motorhome pitches are on a green, flat meadow. There is a table tennis table for children. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking. The sanitary facilities are modern and clean.
Blackpool is a great day trip destination. The old coastal town is well worth a visit. The drive to the coast takes just over an hour, depending on traffic.
The three piers and the great sea panorama are the main attractions of Blackpool. The Central and Southern Pier offer many entertainment possibilities for families with children. Those seeking peace and quiet should head for the Northern Pier. Beach chairs for hire are also available.
There are numerous cafés and restaurants throughout the city and directly on the promenade. The Wintergarden is also worth a visit. The Ferris wheel right by the sea is a great photo motif.
Another nice destination with the motorhome is Liverpool. The city by the sea is located directly on the River Mersey. Liverpool is all about the Beatles. Many companies offer special Beatles tours through the city.
The Albert Dock is a World Heritage Site. In the evening, the city lights are magically reflected in the water. There are many good restaurants along the dock.
Liverpool Cathedral is another place of interest. It is the largest cathedral in England. The interactive tour is very interesting.
The journey to Liverpool by motorhome takes about an hour. The motorhome can be parked anywhere in the city. As in all big cities, parking fees are not necessarily cheap. It is therefore worth parking a little outside and then taking the bus into the city centre.
If you want to leave your motorhome in Manchester, you can do so without any problems. The train from Manchester to Liverpool only takes 40 minutes. It is therefore a good alternative to driving your own motorhome.
There are also some nice campsites around Liverpool. You can stay there for a night with your motorhome.
There are three Metroshuttels within the city centre. They can even be used free of charge. Lines 1 and 2 even run on Sundays. These shuttles are particularly helpful for those who prefer to leave their motorhome at the campsite.
Large parts of Manchester city centre can also be explored very well on foot. Most buses leave from Piccadilly Gardens. As the buses are largely privately owned, they have different colours. You will therefore wait in vain for the typical red London bus.
The different companies in Manchester only sell single tickets for their own line and cannot be used on other buses. Unfortunately, this is somewhat impractical.
However, it is possible to buy a day ticket for all buses. These DaySaver any Bus tickets cost around 6 pounds.
If you don't need to change bus routes, you can buy a day ticket for 4 pounds with the Stagecoach/Magic Bus. These tickets are available directly on the bus from the driver. It is also possible to hire a bicycle in the city.
When travelling by bus in Manchester, keep an eye out for pickpockets. Unfortunately, this is one of the bigger problems in the city. When driving into the city in a motorhome, it is advisable to leave the glove compartment open. An empty glove compartment indicates to thieves that there is nothing to be taken here.
Particularly popular items are radios, navigation devices and mobile phones. The mobile phone should be securely stowed in the pocket and not taken out on the road. Pockets are safest at the front of the body.
Motorhome Hire - Getting there by plane:
The city has its own airport, located in the south of the city. All British airlines fly from this airport. The following airlines fly directly from Germany to the English city:
The airline Lufthansa offers direct flights from Frankfurt. Germanwings flies from Cologne/ Bonn and Eurowings from Düsseldorf. Easyjet has Berlin, Hamburg and Munich on offer as departure airports. Flying is ideal for those who want to rent the camper only in England.
Manchester Airport has a total of three terminals. The walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is about fifteen minutes, while Terminal 3 is in the same complex as Terminal 1.
There are numerous buses from the airport to the city centre. The journey takes between 40 and 50 minutes. The airport is also connected to the tram network. Of course, there are also numerous taxis available at the airport.
Motorhome rental - Arrival by train:
Deutsche Bahn offers numerous connections to England from Germany. Tickets can be booked easily on the internet. The train runs through a 50 km tunnel, which is not to everyone's liking.
Motorhome Hire - Getting there by car:
There are two options when travelling by car. One is to drive through the 50 km long Eurotunnel and the other option is to use the ferry. A trip through the Eurotunnel costs about 130 euros. Pets cost extra. Ferries depart from Holland. The journey takes about 2 hours.
It is often cheaper to travel by train and rent a camper van locally.
