Camping in Brittany: a fascinating place with a thousand facets

Brittany - a region often criticised for its climate and is yet so appreciated by tourists who visit it. This mysterious region in the northwest of France, rich in culture and landscape, will send you on a journey. In Brittany, you'll see the stark contrast between land and sea, forests and cliffs, and cities and moors. You'll leave in awe and come back to discover the places you didn't have time to visit. In fact, there's so much to do, that you'll probably have to go back. But let's discover the places that you shouldn't miss out on during your stay in Britanny!

A region with exceptional landscapes

Let's start by exploring northern Brittany and its diverse landscape. If you want to have a holiday surrounded by nature, visit Ushant Island. This paradisiacal island is just a few miles from Brest, a proud harbour town, with a lighthouse that overlooks the sea. Ushant is known to be dangerous because of the sea's violent currents, but that doesn't stop tourists from venturing into the island. When the tide is low, follow the coast and enjoy the exceptional views!

Visit the city of Saint Malo! Saint Malo has many beaches and that aren't too far from the city centre. The largest beach is Le Sillon. It stretches from the walled city to the Paramée district. Enjoy the food that the region has to offer, such as the traditional Breton pancakes or the local speciality, the Saint-Malo cracker.

Brittany is a fascinating region that has so much to offer! Here are some other northern destinations that we recommend you visit: the suprisingly pink granite coast of Armor , Cape Fréhel between Dinard and Saint Brieuc and the Pointe de Brimel.

The south of Brittany is as beautiful as the north, our favourite is the Gulf of Morbihan! This "little sea" in Breton is extended by the Bay of Quiberon, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The Gulf is a vast area of water and sea, home to many happy fishermen. When you visit the gulf, you'll admire the unique spectacle in which land and sea mix to create extraordinary landscapes.

What can you do in Brittany?

In Brittany, the sea is everywhere, which gives you an endless choice of activities to do. Sports enthusiasts can get the chance to tackle the waves whilst kayaking, or sail along the rugged coast or explore the underwater world whilst diving. With more than 5,000km of hiking trail, hikers will be able to appreciate the views, especially along the coastline. If you're a horse riding fanatic, you can do that too! There are also plenty of tours for those who want to discover the region by bike.

What's the weather like in Brittany?

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't rain every day of the year in Brittany. The Armorican peninsula enjoys a genuine oceanic climate, which is rather mild. It is never very cold or too hot. In low season you have the right to exceptional weather, but in winter Brittany suffers from severe storms. On the north coast, the dominant storms come from the northwest of the Finistère coast. On the south coast, the weather is generally sunny, hot and dry.

Brittany, a true paradise for campers

Brittany is one of the number one destinations for tourists who want to camp or drive in a motorhome along the coast to enjoy an ultra-panoramic experience of the region.

Most campsites provide safe parking for campervans. They have a complete range of services with supply and disposal stations for your motorhome. Campers who prefer to stay in a tent are also welcome on the campsite. Most campsites are close to the beach, which is an advantage for tourists looking for peace and quiet. Those who like to keep active will enjoy exploring through the region, by following the marked paths through unforgettable terrain and picturesque villages. Along the way you'll also find many restaurants and bistros for a refreshing break before returning to your campsite.
