#EXPLORE beautiful Dordogne – TOP things to see
The Dordogne is a beautiful area in the southwest of France. It’s know for its pitoresque medieval villages, prehistoric cave paintings, vineyards, and laid back country life. You may also see it referred to as Périgord, which is the historic name of the area.
The Dordogne is both a river and a department in Aquitaine. Today, the Périgord is divided into four parts: the Périgord vert (green Périgord) in the north which is covered with holm oaks and chestnut trees, the Périgord blanc (white Périgord) in the centre is named after its cereal fields on limestone soils, the Périgord rouge (red Périgord) in the southwest represents the colour of its vine leaves in autumn and finally the Périgord noir (black Périgord) in the south with its dark oak forests.
