Camping can be associated with many different things. Some might connect it with romance in a tent for two and lose themselves in nature. To them cooking with a spirit stove and lounging in a sleeping bag is the incarnation of luxury.
Others prefer using a caravan and carrying a small part of their home with them, while looking for the perfect campsite and location. And then there are those who go the extra mile, because they simply cannot and do not want to spend their holidays without all comforts and luxury. They would prefer something like this: carrying their villa at the back of the Rolls and hitting the way. Lucky for them, there are some motorhomes being pretty close to that image.
Independence meets luxury
Luxury motorhomes offer a travel experience with the best of both worlds: the independence of an individual travel plan without stressful and unpredictable hotel reservations and the luxury of a comfortable living situation as one is used to from home – perhaps even more luxurious than the one at home.
But, like all beautiful things in this life, travelling in a luxury motorhome also has a catch. The ones who travel in one of the following gigantic companions over land, cruises so to say with the ocean liner over the excavator lake. The Cruiser can sometimes be too big to be true. The globetrotter who cares about luxury must be aware of one thing: There are many roads that are not accessible to this type of motorhomes. Therefore it is required to plan your travel accordingly. However, once this has been successfully completed there are hardly any disadvantages – apart from the considerable costs of purchase or rent and operation.
But enough with the talking! We present you five of the most beautiful motorhomes of the luxury class!
1. Marchi Mobile: eleMMent Palazzo Superior
According to the manufacturer Marchi Mobile, the eleMMent Palazzo Superior is the most extraordinary and exclusive motorhome in 190 countries. If you take a look inside and suddenly find yourself in the owner’s bedroom with its king-size double bed, you will be inclined to agree. About the bed: it is handmade and comes from the purveyor of the court of the English royal family. One simply has to think of the book “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, in which a small tent is mentioned where a three-room apartment is hidden inside.
Palazzo Superior might seem big from the outside, but wait until you see it from the inside as well! 12 metres long, 6 metres high, 5 metres wide with extended slide-outs (retracted 2.5 metres) and a total weight of 28 tonnes. Sounds impressive? The luxury motorhome appears to be twice the size from a close up.
By the way, the height of 6 meters is no coincidence. The motorhome contains a spacious roof terrace, which invites you to enjoy the sunset with a sundowner or champagne in the hand, a picture unthinkable for standard class motorhomes.
How is it equipped?
The entire floor space amounts 68 square meters – that is more than an apartment in the city center. There is a living room and next to it a kitchen. A bathroom and of course a spa area with a shower that can has various programs. Furthermore, there is a multimedia room with a top-class audio system and special lighting control, as well as the aforementioned Sky Lounge with automatically controlled sunroof. The only thing missing is the double garage for the two Ferraris of the lucky owner, but then the vehicle would probably not fit through any road.
Taking its dimensions into consideration, the 28 tons of weight are more than understandable. However, this poses an additional challenge to the driver. Not only the width of the road and the maximum height of underpasses have to be taken into account, but also the permissible total weight of some bridges in order to prevent them from collapsing.
The motorhome has a 6-cylinder in-line engine, which can bring 600 hp to the axles if necessary. In view of the luxury and splendour of this gem of a motorhome, the 2.5 million euros for the purchase appear almost as a catch.

2. Vario Mobil: Alcove 1200
If there’s one thing you can’t see about the Alkoven 1200, it’s its origin: the luxury motorhome is based on a truck chassis that, depending on the model, comes either from MAN or Mercedes. This brings the Alkoven 1200 to a total weight of proud 25 tons, over 12 meters in length, 2.5 meters wideness and about 4 meters of height. Many slide-outs are designed as oriels and hydraulically operated, which enlarges the living space considerably.
Although the offered space does not beat the one of eleMMent Palazzo Superior, there is a garage with space for one car. The equipment leaves no desire unlived. In addition you will find: design floors, several flatscreens and espresso machines. Furthermore there is a pentagonal shower with a real glass door. The fresh water tank with 500 litres and the waste water tank with 400 litres capacity also allow longer journeys without refuelling and emptying. A roof air conditioner ensures pleasant temperatures. The Vario Mobil alcove 1200 is available for 732,000 euros.

3. Volkner Mobile: Performance Compact
In comparison to the other two motorhomes, the performance with its 10.2 meters length, 2.5 meters width and 3.7 meters height can actually be called compact. Nevertheless, the motorhomes in the Performance Compact model series weigh also around 18 tonnes. Surprisingly, this motorhome also offers a garage for a small car. Instead of several slide-outs, there is a wall-out, i.e. an extension covering almost the entire length of the car. This way you can enlarge the bedroom and the bathroom. Furthermore, above of the spacious bed there is a panorama window.
The equipment corresponds to a 5-star hotel. There is a marble bathroom, hand-veneered woods and leather upholstered furniture. Various types of wood are available for the interior design, customising the style. The kitchen can also be customised. It can be installed as a cooking island, row or in an angle, contains solid wood worktops and a built-in steam cooker.
The Performance Compact also delights its residents with a programmable rain shower, which here is even equipped with a romantic starry sky. The compact (representative of the luxury class among motorhomes) costs around 580,000 euros.

4. Magellano: Edition 1
If you prefer the luxury and elegance of a boat or a yacht, Magellano is the place for you. The motorhome builder focuses on individuality and personal care. Therefore there is also no software configurator for the organization of the individual mechanism. Instead, Magellano lays great importance to personal consultation.
The interior design of the 11.6 metre long, 2.5 metre wide and almost 4 metre high Edition 1 meets this high standard. It weighs a total of 16 tonnes. In addition to the saloon, there is a bathroom with shower and illuminated base plate as well as a kitchen with a large refrigerator and freezer. Depending on your wishes, there is either a rear garage for a vehicle or a cellar that offers enough space to accommodate four motorcycles. The built-in surveillance camera with remote access via iPhone offers reliable theft protection. A special note is added to Edition 1 by the woven vinyl floor design. Depending on the equipment, the purchase price starts at 680,000 euros.

5. Morelo: Empire Liner
Morelo in Schlüsselfeld focuses on providing a home feeling. The driver should really make himself at home in this luxury apartment. Since the own home may not be too small, the Empire Liner brings it to approximately 11 meters length, 2.5 meters width and 2.8 meters height. Depending on the chassis used, the total weight is between 10 and 15 tons.
The smooth walls give the liner a particularly elegant appearance. This impression is continued in the interior, which appears airy and transparent especially in the version with light woods and white deck surfaces. The Empire Liner is throughout equipped with a sophisticated lighting concept and has underfloor heating, which the owners will particularly enjoy during their winter tours. The motorhomes of the Empire line also draw their luxury from the developers’ love for detail. A special radiator for towels ensures that the spa stay is an all-round delight even after the event. Below the panorama window, the spacious bed pampers you with a multi-zone mattress with a water gel surface.

Bottom line
Most campers wouldn’t purchase a luxury motorhome. Even if money is not the issue, you should still put a lot of thought into it, before investing into one of these models. So that you don’t regret your decision later. But in light of the extraordinary experience of travelling through Europe in a 5-star hotel and thereby fulfilling a long-cherished dream, this can turn out to be a delight for the soul.
