The Netherlands is a popular destination for European camping enthusiasts. Our Dutch friends, as camping nation no. 1, know how camping works. There is a large selection of campsites throughout the country – whether near the beach or inland, as a family, couple or with grandchildren! See for yourself:
Campsites and famous sights:
The Netherlands is relatively easy to reach from anywhere in Europe and scores well when it comes to camping with well-kept pitches. If you are looking for relaxation and peace, you can choose a site by the sea and enjoy the days on the beach. For those who prefer a change of pace, there is a metropolitan region where you can choose between the hustle and bustle of the big city and the tranquillity of nature.
The versatility of the Netherlands offers the right option for every style of camping!
In the following, we will present some of the campsites that stand out for their location, surroundings, facilities and service. What sort of camper are you?
The All-Rounder — “De Veenweide” and “Boerderijcamping Molenperk“
At the car-free campsite “De Veenweide” in Blokzijl, for example. Not far from a number of large lakes you can fish, swim, hike and explore the area by bike. Just do it the Dutch way!
Excursions to the Ijsselmeer are here just as possible as visits to museums and amusement parks. The trendy city of Amsterdam is also within easy reach of the campsite. There is an ultimate choice of possibilities: Museums, ships, theme city tours and many shops for shopping. A camping holiday couldn’t be more varied!
Versatility also distinguishes “Boerderijcamping Molenperk” in Serooskerke in the province of Zeeland. The campsite is situated on a peninsula surrounded by sea water. The beach is easy to reach from anywhere. Also Zeeland’s capital Middelburg is only a few kilometres away. The traditional city has its own charm. There are historic canal houses, winding alleys and the “Langen Hans”, a lookout tower in the middle of the old town. You have to climb 207 steps before you can enjoy a fantastic view! By the way, there is a large weekly market in Middelburg every Thursday. There are a lot of regional products here that tempt you to cook together.
You can find great camping recipes HERE!
The family-oriented people — “Uylkens Hof“
Are you an adventurer? The “Uylkens Hof” in Emst offers a special camping adventure. Spend the night in a fully equipped safari tent and take advantage of the varied local leisure activities. Whether it’s minigolf, swimming or cycling – there’s everything here – even a fully equipped kiosk. Located inland, Emst offers you the unique opportunity to get to know the province of Gelderland. Here lies the famous nature reserve Hoge Veluwe with its unique heath landscape, high dunes and dense forests. The safari park in Arnhem or the palace in Apeldoorn are also popular excursion destinations near Emst.
A pure paradise for families with children! A combination of relaxation and exciting adventures.
The Sporty Senior Citizen — “De Knockaerthof“
In the very south-west of the country, just before the border with neighbouring Belgium, you will find the campsite “De Knockaerthof“. Fans of golf have the opportunity of hitting a few balls here, surrounded by beautiful nature, or to let off steam in the nearby swimming pool. The owners rent out bicycles so that you can make excursions along the Belgian-Dutch border. Also visit the nearby city of Bruges. From the central market square you have a wonderful view of the city’s towers: Belfort is a medieval bell tower. Next to it is the spire of the Church of Our Lady and the Basilica of the Holy Blood.
The Dog Lovers and Naturists — “Het Varsenerveld” and “Van Veen“
Not far from the German-Dutch border lays the camping site “Het Varsenerveld” in the small municipality of Ommen. The dog-friendly site is situated on a lake. You can arrive with your boat, because a boat slip facility is available. There is also a naturist beach and a mini golf course. Barbecue areas, snack bar and mini-market will take care of your physical well-being.
Also close to the border to Germany is the camping site “Van Veen“. The small village of Wezuperbrug is near Emmen in the province of Drenthe. Here you will find a wide range of leisure activities for families such as Wildlands, Tierpark Emmen or Plopsa Indoor Coevorden. The city centre of Emmens is also an inviting place to stroll. A large covered shopping centre with many shops is the ideal place to stay on bad weather days, but hikes and bicycle tours through the Dutch countryside can also be enjoyed here.
Netherlands – A paradise for camping
The Netherlands – beautiful beaches and blue sea, colourful tulip fields and modern cities. A multifaceted camping holiday is guaranteed. Such a holiday with family, friends or camping in the neighbouring country is becoming more and more popular. This is certainly also due to the good highway traffic. Especially in summer the campsites near the beach are in high demand. Swimming, relaxing, grilling and simply breathing in fresh sea breezes. That’ s how a holiday in the Netherlands feels! However, spring and autumn are also great camping times in Holland!
In the Netherlands there is also a very large selection of different pitches for motorhomes and tents. Here you can cycle to explore the area. Past historic windmills, endless tulip fields and lush green meadows. So we can experience Holland in an authentic and untouched way… Along the way there are small restaurants or cafés where you can try Dutch specialities.
Other places are for example close to the metropolis Amsterdam. It never gets boring here. From a centrally located campsite you can reach the centre quickly and explore famous sights on foot. During the day you can stroll around Amsterdam’s flower market and dance at night in countless bars, clubs and discos. People are very open-minded and hospitable.
As you can see, camping in the Netherlands is well worth it. This small but fine country is an attractive destination, which scores with varied regions.
For us campers:
A large selection of well-maintained pitches, many destinations all around and the great service have contributed to its good reputation.
