Everyone wants a little peace of mind and silence during their holidays. Having the holiday resort all to yourself and not having to rush while exploring. All this is possible in spring, when the campsites aren’t full and the sun doesn’t burn.
Pros and Cons
Every season has of course its advantages and disadvantages. Here is our list:
Pros
- First of all you get peace of mind. Less people means more silence.
- Furthermore there are less insects to annoy you in the evening.
- Relevant for students: Low season means less expenses.
- The nature is going to inspire you with its seasonal beauty and the weather is suitable for hiking or cycling.
- Individual travel with more direct contact to country and locals.
Cons
- The days are shorter and the nights are colder. Therefore you might not be able to explore as much as you would in summer.
- Parties are not going to be very common in campsites. So it is perhaps not the best season for party people.
- Swimming in the sea is not going to be a given
- Not every campground is going to be open and available
Top destinations and campsites
Obviously some places are more suitable for camping in spring than others. A top destination would be Germany. France is also quite popular and Croatias traffic is increasing. Italy could of course also not fall short on the list.
Germany
Sylt, Rügen and the East Frisian Islands in the north of Germany await nature-hungry adventurers.
- For example : The campsite in Hörnum on Sylt lies gracefully in the dunes, offers peace of mind, silence and a good restaurant. It opens in April and offers an indoor swimming pool for the once who find the North Sea water too fresh.
- Many possibilities for camping in spring are also available in Rügen. The natural camping Alt Reddevitz is situated by the large, gentle bay Bodden. Beautiful for splashing around in the water, hiking and experiencing nature.
- Another destination would be the campingpark Gitzenweiler Hof at Lake Constance in Lindau. It is not situated directly at the lake, but stands out for its cleanliness and many offers, while it is open the whole year. It is also close to the flower island Mainau in spring.
Italy
If fog falls on Lake Constance, you can always escape to Italy. Different campings, different experiences. Italians are rather interested in being social rather than nature. One goes to the beach to see or even better to be seen. The landscape serves only as a background. This also shapes life at camping. The needs of Teutons flooding the area are nevertheless met. So fear not, cause cleanliness and comfort awaits you. There is no guarantee that everything will work as promised, but Italy is certainly ideal for camping in spring.
- Camping Seiser Alm offers a fantastic panorama of Tyrol and also has a nice location, since it is close to Bolzano. Tuscany attracts with its gentle hills, cypresses, culture and history of Florence and Pisa.
- Ever thought about Sardinia? Explore the island with a camper, visit secluded bays that are otherwise difficult to reach. Campeggio Tonnara on the Sant’Antioco peninsula is ideal for families and individuals, perfect in the low season to enjoy the island’s life.
France
Meet the El Dorado of camping. Under pine trees, shady, often offering more space than Italy. France has been fascinating the Germans for decades. Not far from Sardinia you can breathe the scent of Corsica, whom Napoleon had already raved about. A dreamy destination for hiking in spring.
- Camping U Farniente en Pertamina Village, Vis a Vis with Sardinia, offers a little more elegance and on top of that a lot of shade.
- The area around the Bassin d’Arcachon, a large bay of the Atlantic Ocean, is and remains a wonderful place for camping holidays. Le Marache Vacances stands out for its facilities, location and friendliness.
In Paris, just 5 km from the Eiffel Tower, there is an attractive camping site on the Seine. Whether with a caravan, tent or a rented cabin – spring in Paris. On y va? (Let’s go?)
Croatia
The eastern side of the Adriatic is becoming increasingly popular. The country, just like Italy, has a lot to offer. Enjoy the unique flair of Croatia and its absolutely astonishing panoramas. Whether it’s the coast or inland, both are remarkable. Furthermore compared to Italy, the country is a bit cheaper and less crowded, especially in spring.
- Camp Zagreb is suitable for exploring the capital or for a stopover on the way to the south. Enjoy the view of the lake, pitch your tent wherever you like, get serviced by friendly staff and eat delicious and lavish dishes at the restaurant.
- Dubrovnik was and remains Croatias cultural highlight. Especially in spring, since streets are full of tourists in the summer and the weather is probably going to be too hot. A nice starting point is Camp Pod Maslinom, only 15 minutes away from the city by bus. The camping is directly next to the sea, offering therefore a beautiful view.
- The comfortable camping Milo Moje, just 100 km south of Split, offers a beautiful beach holiday close to the islands.
Pack up your things and lets go!
Camping in spring can become an unforgettable experience. Especially if you long for peace of mind and silence while enjoying nature and sightseeing. But pay attention to good equipment!
