RV rental Vicenza: Discover Vicenza with campstar

The wonderful Italian city of Vicenza enchants its visitors with its lightness and Mediterranean flair. It owes its very special charm not least to its magnificent Renaissance buildings. The buildings by Andrea Palladio have a decisive influence on the cityscape.  Paladio was one of the most important architects in Italy in the 16th century. He planned numerous sacred buildings, palaces and villas. His models included the artists of antiquity. His buildings are characterized above all by their balanced proportions and harmony.  Vicenza lies in the immediate vicinity of Venice and is the capital of the province of the same name. The city can look back on an impressive history. Some of the remains that can still be seen today are over 3000 years old.  Today, the city is best known for its jewelry and fashion industries. These industries made Vicenza one of the wealthiest cities in Italy. The landmark of Vicenza is the Basilica Palladiana.  A trip to Vicenza in an RV is also worthwhile because of the wonderful surrounding countryside. The area is characterized by vineyards, olive trees and endless fields. The cherry blossom is a particularly beautiful event.  Nobody should be put off by the industrial areas on the outskirts of the city. They are quickly crossed by campervan. Well-known brands such as Diesel, Bottega Veneta and Marzotto are based here.

The annual precipitation value is 485 mm. It is dry 206 days a year.

RV rental - temperatures

With 28 degrees Celsius, July and August are the warmest months of the year. The coldest month is January with 3 degrees Celsius. The camping season begins in April, when temperatures no longer drop below 15 degrees Celsius.  In November, you should not necessarily arrive with your RV, as the weather then suddenly deteriorates. From December onwards, it becomes quite uncomfortable. At night, the temperatures are around freezing point.

In January it snows on average on only one day.  In July there are 13 rainy days. Around 19 mm of precipitation falls. For this reason, it is worthwhile to put an umbrella in the camper. A rainproof awning can also be very helpful.

RV rental in Vicenza - the most beautiful sights

Due to the numerous sights, it is almost impossible as a tourist to explore the entire city. But no visitor should miss the following attractions:

RV rental Destination 1: The Cathedral

The cathedral as it is seen today was built in the 15th century. Two other churches had previously stood on this site. The wonderful Gothic façade was lavishly restored in the 20th century.   The magnificent dome immediately catches the eye. Like most of the city's architectural marvels, it was designed by Palladio. Inside, the 14th century winged altar is particularly worth seeing.  Under the sacristy, archaeologists found the remains of a Roman road.  The museum, which is located directly behind the cathedral, is also worth a visit. The Palazzo Porti is also located there.

RV destination 2: Basilica of San Maria di Monte Berico

This Roman Catholic pilgrimage church is located on a hill south of the city. It was built on this site after two apparitions of Mother Mary in 1426 and 1428.  In 1429, the first official service was held here. From the 16th century onwards, there were regular processions. The first services in the church took place in 1429. The vault of the church was painted with frescoes by the artist Bartolomeo Montagna. There is also a Paolo Veronese painting of St Gregory in the church.

RV destination 3: the Municipal Art Gallery

This Renaissance palace stands in Piazza Mateotti and is home to the Municipal Art Gallery. The numerous works by Italian painters are well worth seeing. Among the most famous exhibits are works by Pallaio, Giambattista Pittoni and Bartolomeo Montagna.  Sculptures and coins are also on display. In 1550, the palace was designed by Andrea Palladio. However, Count Girolamo Chiericati did not live to see the completion of his house.  Tip Rent a bike: The city and its surroundings are wonderful to explore by bike, bikes can be rented at Viaggiare Curiosi. The bike rental company offers very modern bikes.
